The BostonSight Ophthalmologist performs medical evaluations of PROSE patients. The Ophthalmologist demonstrates expertise in the implementation and utilization of PROSE treatment, and in evaluating and treating patients with complex corneal disease.
Responsibilities include medical care of patients with complex corneal and external disease, medical supervision and delivery of care of BostonSight patients as required, including medical review of potential and returning patients, and preparation of medical necessity letters. The Ophthalmologist also has responsibility for education of patients, referring providers, and third-party payors regarding PROSE treatment, and participation in the training and education of staff and physicians from the fields of Optometry and Ophthalmology. This is a part-time position reporting to the Chief Medical Officer. Applicants who are looking for flexible hours are encouraged to apply. Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
M.D.
Board-certified Ophthalmologist with specialty fellowship training in cornea and external disease*
At least five years of experience and advanced clinical/technical knowledge
Enthusiastic interest in education in the field of corneal and ocular surface disease
*An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed below, may be substituted for the specialty fellowship training in cornea and external disease requirements.
LICENSURE:
Current eligibility or licensure by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a provider of PROSE treatment, including ophthalmic evaluation and management of PROSE patients and supporting and evaluating PROSE treatment and PROSE training. Provide supervisory support in each of these areas when challenges are faced by optometric and technician staff.
Participate in the BostonSight collaborative care model by co-managing patients with PROSE Providers.
Continue to develop sub-specialty expertise in the medical management of complex corneal disease.
Generate documentation to substantiate medical necessity assessments and handle insurance appeals.
Correspond with referring providers to ensure continuity of care.
Demonstrate care and compassion for patients with corneal disease and visual diminution, with skilled management of patient expectations and complaints.
Participate in the rotating on-call schedule with other BostonSight ophthalmology and optometry staff.
