Company Overview
The Eye & Laser Center is comprised of four comprehensive ophthalmologists and 25 support staff. Our doctors work as a team to care for our patients. As a result, our patients benefit from all of our doctors' combined expertise and experience. Additionally, our doctors listen to the staff for suggestions how to improve the quality of care we provide our patients and how to improve the quality of the work place. As a result, one of the first things people notice when they come to our practice is the laughter and the genuine camaraderie among the doctors and staff.
Our guiding principle is to do the right thing rather than the easiest or most profitable thing. All employees, including the newest hire, is empowered to make decisions on behalf of our patients and the practice as long as they apply our three-way test first: 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it in the patient's best interest? 3) Is it in the practice's best interest?
This patient-first philosophy, based on honesty, has earned us the loyalty of our staff, our patients and our community as well as local, regional and national recognition and awards. At the local level, our patients consistently vote us "Best of the Best". At the regional level, the South Carolina Society of Ophthalmology honored us with their Patient Advocacy Award. And at the national level, we were awarded the American Business Ethics Award - we are the only medical practice to ever win this award, and we were the first in the award's 18-year history to win it with a unanimous vote among the judges.
Company History
The Eye & Laser Center was founded in 1981 by Drs. Frances and John Story and two support staff. It was the first ophthalmology practice in Lancaster County. The practice has since grown to four comprehensive ophthalmologists and 25 support staff and now serves patients from a seven-county area. Two of these counties/areas (the 29707 zip code in Lancaster County, SC - comprised of Indian Land and Fort Mill and the 28173 zip code in Union County, NC) are the fastest growing residential areas in the nation.
