Maryland Eye Associates is a group practice of ophthalmologists and optometrists whose mission is to offer the best quality eye care possible at a fair and reasonable cost. We accomplish this by maintaining clinical skills, keeping up with changing technologies, being available for our patients and being responsive to patient needs.
Dr. Michael J. Dodd founded our practice in 1977. The first office was opened in Prince Frederick, Calvert County, Maryland. Prince Frederick and Calvert County have grown from rural agriculturally based communities into the fastest growing area of the state. Maryland Eye Associates has two offices, in Prince Frederick and Annapolis. We have four ophthalmologists and one optometrist in the group.
Drs. Dodd and Miller have special interests in cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Dodd performs Lasik surgery as an affiliate of TLC. Dr. Wanner is fellowship trained in Glaucoma. Dr. Berry is a medical ophthalmologist. Our optometrist, Dr. Burge provides eye examinations, emergent treatment, contact lens and low vision services. The group generally refers out surgical retina patients, complicated pediatric and neurophthalmology patients.
Our office in Prince Frederick includes an optical dispensary owned by the practice.
Maryland Eye Associates takes pride, not only in our doctors, but also in our staff, equipment and facilities. We have a number of long-term employees with well-refined skills. Our ophthalmic techs work toward certification with the support of the practice. Several already hold certifications. Our billing and administrative staff are excellent. A cooperative and supportive environment is encouraged to enable the provision of excellent healthcare for our patients and an excellent work culture for our doctors and staff. Maryland Eye Associates has invested in proven technologies. For example, we own both a Stratus and Cirrus OCT, a Lumenis SLT laser, OPD III and use the IOL Master for our axial length measurements. Our lanes are equipped with Haag Streit slit lamps. We have invested in NextGen as our practice management and electronic health record system.
Our office in Prince Frederick was constructed to our design and replaced a smaller facility. The Prince Frederick office is our “main” office. We see, on average, about 18,000 patient visits in our Prince Frederick facility each year. The Annapolis office was designed to our specifications and will enable us to host an equally impressive volume of patients.
Two ambulatory surgery centers have been developed, both providing excellent outpatient surgical alternatives to our patients. The Surgery Center™ is a state licensed, Medicare certified, AAAHC accredited ambulatory surgery center operating in the same building as our Prince Frederick office. The Annapolis Surgery Center is located in suites adjacent to our Annapolis office.
Maryland Eye Associates serves people from all of southern and central Maryland as well as parts of the Eastern Shore. Our area offers an excellent variety of activities certain to enhance any lifestyle. We enjoy a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. Depending on the season, one can enjoy the Atlantic’s sandy beaches, hiking the Appalachian Trail, skiing in Western Maryland, biking the C&O Canal, or every variety of water sport on the Chesapeake Bay. We are in close proximity with Baltimore and Washington, D.C. enabling access to a breadth of cultural and educational opportunities. In our area there are excellent private and public schools and a diversity of religious and cultural activities.
